Perspectives History

Perspectives on the World Christian Movement is the single, most comprehensive source of information on the unfinished task of global evangelism. Taught at over 150 locations internationally each year, over 83,000 Christians have completed the course since its introduction in 1974.

In 1974, Dr. Ralph D. Winter, founder of the U.S. Center for World Mission in Pasadena, California, introduced the concept of "hidden peoples" at the Lausanne Congress. He pointed out that over half the world's population was still untouched by the Gospel, hidden behind barriers of ethnicity. Dr. Winter then developed the Perspectives classes to awaken God's people around the world to reach and disciple the remaining unreached peoples of the world.

In 1980, in the first extension course of Perspectives at Penn State University, God challenged a number of students. Two of them became the founders of great Kingdom ministries: Frontiers and Caleb Project. God has worked in the hearts of many other students through these extension courses in North America. A new generation of intentional workers has risen up for the Kingdom in their own Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria and to the ends of the earth.

Today, Perspectives is offered throughout the year at extension sites around the world. Over 12,000 people have taken the extension course in New Zealand, Australia, the Philippines, and other countries. Perspectives is also available in Spanish and Korean, and other translations are in progress.

You can discover more information about this class on the main Perspectives website (click here).

"Perspectives is absolutely essential for anyone interested in missions!"
- George Verwer, Founder, Operation Mobilization

I'm enthusiastic about Perspectives because my life and our church are devoted to spreading a passion for the supremacy of God in all things for the joy of all peoples. Perspectives has been essential in mobilizing hundreds of lay people in our church to be World Christians.
- John Piper, Senior Pastor, Bethlehem Baptist Church, Minneapolis
